3.2.6 Other Areas

This section describes research interests of faculty which do not naturally fit into one of the previous areas.

Faculty:

Wayne Powell (currently Dean of the Graduate College): Universal algebra, i.e., classes of algebras carrying an inherent order structure, arising naturally from functional analysis; in particular, descriptions of so-called ``universal'' objects such as free algebras and free products of algebras and universal embedding properties of these objects.
Marvin Keener (currently Executive Vice President, Office of Academic Affairs): Differential equations, dynamical systems, and applied mathematics.
Dave Witte: Combinatorics, particularly applications of group theory to problems in graph theory.
