Notes on the Dodecahedron

  1. The 12 faces are colored with 6 colors. Antipodal faces have the same color.
  2. The sides of each face are numbered 1-5 according to a certain scheme which we challenge the reader to discover. An edge on the boundary of two faces has the same number on both faces.
  3. The edges are numbered in reverse order on a face antipodal to a given face. For instance, if a red face is numbered 1,3,5,4,2 in counterclockwise order, then the antipodal red face will be numbered 2,4,5,3,1 in counterclockwise order.
  4. Six antipodal faces are hidden from view in the starting picture. A face can always be distinguished by its color and the order of the edge numbers.
