Notes on the Dodecahedron
- The 12 faces are colored with 6 colors. Antipodal faces have the
same color.
- The sides of each face are numbered 1-5 according to a certain
scheme which we challenge the reader to discover. An edge on the
boundary of two faces has the same number on both faces.
- The edges are numbered in reverse order on a face antipodal to a
given face. For instance, if a red face is numbered 1,3,5,4,2 in
counterclockwise order, then the antipodal red face will be
numbered 2,4,5,3,1 in counterclockwise order.
- Six antipodal faces are hidden from view in the starting
picture. A face can always be distinguished by its color and the
order of the edge numbers.
