How Do I Set the DISPLAY?

If you're running a program on a Unix server, want to display it on your PC or X-terminal and you receive an error message that looks like Can't open display, you need to set your display variable.

If you're using the standard .cshrc file, the skeleton .cshrc file has been edited so that it should set your display properly. If you intentionally modified your .cshrc file or snagged one from somone else who modified it then you're probably using the default. If you've modified your .cshrc file you'll need to add the following line to set your display and this is case sensitive:
