New Faculty for Fall 2009

The department is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Mermin, Ph.D. Cornell, and Dr. Jesse Johnson, Ph.D. U. C. Davis, will be joining the faculty this fall. Both currently hold NSF postdoctoral fellowships.

Faculty Positions For Fall 2010

This search has been halted until further notice.

Applications are invited for one tenure-track faculty position as assistant professor beginning fall 2010. Applicants should have obtained a doctoral degree, have outstanding research potential, and be committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. Research experience beyond the doctorate is preferred. Especially well-qualified applicants may be considered for appointment at the rank of associate professor. The Department encourages applications from individuals with research interest close to that of a permanent faculty member; in particular, we encourage applications from individuals interested in research in mathematics education. Applicants in mathematics education should have, in addition to a doctoral degree, coursework equivalent at least to a master's degree in mathematics and be conducting research in secondary or college-level mathematics education.

TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position as assistant professor in mathematics education beginning Fall 2008. Especially well-qualified applicants will be considered for appointment at the rank of associate professor. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in mathematics education including at least the equivalent of a Masters degree in mathematics or a Ph.D. in mathematics, and demonstrated potential for productive research in K-16 mathematics teaching and learning that is competitive for external funding. Candidates should also be committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education; the usual teaching load is 6 hours per semester.

Postdoctoral Position for Academic Year 2008-09

This Position Has Been Filled.

The Department invites applications from recent recipients of the Ph.D. for a temporary postdoctoral position beginning Fall 2008. This is a one-year appointment which if funding is available may be renewed for a second year. The duties include research and teaching, with a teaching load of usually 6 hours per semester. Mathematicians with research interests close to those of the permanent faculty may receive preference.
