This document outlines the acceptable use of computing facilities in the Math Department, Oklahoma State University. Some of the details are outdated.
As part of moving email and web services from hardy.math.okstate.edu to cauchy.math.okstate.edu each user will need to make some changes in their method of access to email. The details are explained in the two documents attached below.
The first document covers the changes most users will need to make. The second is a tutorial for setting up Thunderbird. The tutorial was written for the current email system but changes for the new server cauchy.math.okstate.edu are indicated throughout. In screen shots replace mail.math.okstate.edu by cauchy.math.okstate.edu. If you are currently using Thunderbird with mail.math.okstate.edu, you can simply change the settings to cauchy.math.okstate.edu.
These instructions have not been completely updated but should still be helpful. Several links need to be fixed.
The printers that are available in common areas for the use of faculty, TA's and staff can be accessed in several ways. When a document does not print as expected, it is important to determine how the document was sent to the printer.
The printers have names such as ms401ps1, ms421ps2, ms502ps1 or in long form have .math.okstate.edu appended.
For most users and most situations printing is controlled on their own computer. The printers have been installed and configured within MS Windows (XP, Vista, 7), OSX, linux, etc. on their computer. Users can monitor printing through tools on their computer. The tool will show whether a document is still waiting to be printed or being printed currently. Status information about the printers is also available. If a document has not printed as expected,
This is an attempt to help get you started using the Math department computing resources. If you don't already have one, a new departmental computer account will be created for you. The initial password for your account should be changed as soon as you log in the first time. This account is completely separate from any IT accounts you may have. The Math department runs it's own mail system, so you will all have an email address for this department. Your email address here will be username@math.okstate.edu.
MS421 is the Math department terminal room. It contains 2 PCs, a scanner, and two laser jet printers. This room is locked at all times. If you have an office in this building your key may also unlock this room. If not see the front office for a key.
