Though the difference in coursework between the two types of degrees is minimal, it is worth noting. Both require basically the same work in terms of general education and major requirements; however, the College/Departmental requirements are different. The Bachelor of Science places more emphasis on natural and mathematical sciences. The Bachelor of Arts places more emphasis on arts and humanities, requires ten more hours in the form of a foreign language, and requires a student to take a non-western course. These ten hours mean that the math student concentrating on the arts has twenty-three elective hours instead of the thirty-three allowed the Bachelor of Science. Furthermore, the Bachelor of Arts asks for nine hours of arts and humanities, while the Bachelor of Science asks for nine hours of natural and mathematical sciences.
For B.S. students, you are also allowed to meet the foreign language requirement by having taken two years of the same language in high school. Otherwise, you must still take a language.
For B.A. students, on degree sheets for 1992-93 or older, you are not required to take Computer Science 2113, but all B.A. and B.S. students must take 8 hours of physics.
