Whether you are facing your first semester or viewing graduation around the corner, your choice of a Math Major gives you tools for lifelong learning and a wide variety of careers. Along the way, OSU faculty members want to share with you the excitement of teaching and research, reward you for tasks well done, and encourage you to try projects you may never have considered before.
Both men and women excel as math majors; of our more than one hundred majors, more than half are women, making the Math Department unique among the physical sciences. Being a math major can be fun, too--our math club is now a joint chapter of the Mathematics Association of America, which anyone may join, and Pi Mu Epsilon. Pi Mu Epsilon membership is now reserved for those who meet certain academic requirements, and is thus treated as an award. The club sponsors lectures, discussions, and social events throughout the year for students interested in mathematics.
Remember: other students have ``made it'' before you, so if problems arise (including the ones in your homework assignments!), the Math Department has many resources to help you along the way. Please feel free to ask.
