Each spring, the Math Department hosts an Awards Ceremony, where awards and special recognition are given to both faculty and students. Those honored have included the Pi Mu Epsilon Outstanding Instructor, winners of the Dept. of Math High School Exam and the American High School Mathematics Exam, the recipient of the NUCEA Distinguished Award, participants in the Putnam Exam and the Math Modeling Competition, students who complete their bachelors' degrees with honors, Pi Mu Epsilon members, winners of the Freshman Math exam, and students receiving Professor Emeritus awards.
Outstanding OSU Mathematics graduate students also may receive the O. H. Hamilton award (recognizing outstanding accomplishment and potential for future achievement by a beginning graduate student), the E. K. McLachlan award (for outstanding academic achievement by a graduate student who has passed the doctoral exam), and the Jeanne Agnew award (to a graduate teaching assistant who is actively pursuing an advanced degree, has shown outstanding promise as a teacher, and is performing well in classroom work).
