Fascinating summer jobs are available at many of the national research laboratories and with various government agencies. Here are a few examples (check the Math Major's Monthly regularly for others):
Brookhaven National Laboratory: for undergraduates majoring in applied mathematics, physical and life sciences, engineering, and scientific journalism. Participants are associated with members of the scientific staff in an educational training program developed to give research experience in various areas of chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, nuclear medicine, applied mathematics, high and low energy particle accelerators, and science writing. Students receive weekly stipends, free room, and round-trip airfare.
