Having a Math degree was the key for Mary's being hired by the FAA to work on air traffic control simulation software. Later, she obtained a Master's degree specializing in computer science, which furthered her options within the government. She is currently managing the FAA part of IBM's development of new air traffic control software, a nationwide replacement effort.
