Textbook:

• L. C. Evans, Partial Differential Equations, Graduate Studies in Mathematics Volume 19, American Mathematical Society, 1998.
• We will cover Part I (Chapters 2,3 and 4) and Appendix E (Measure Theory). If time permits, we will also cover Chapter 5.

Exams and Homework Schedule:

• A set of homework problems will be assigned every two weeks.
• Midterm Exam: Friday, October 12, 11:30 a.m. – 12:20 a.m. @ MS 203.

Final Exam: Monday, December 10, 10:00 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. @ MS 203.

Grading Policy:

• Homework—28% (4% for each set), Midterm Exam—32%,

Final Exam—40%, Extra credit for short lecture—3%.

• Cut-offs for Letter Grades: A (90-100); B (75-89); C (60-74); D (45-59); F (0-44).

TA :

There will be no TA for this class, but you can always see me during my

office hours or make appointments at any time during the semester.

Miscellaneous:

• A make-up for the midterm exam will be given only in case of legitimate excuses. There will be no make-up for the final exam.
• Class attendance is very important.
• There will be no class on September 3 (Monday, Labor Day), October 8-9 (Monday-Tuesday, Fall Break), November 16 (Friday, University Holiday) and November 22-23 (Thursday-Friday, Thanksgiving).
