Decipherment of Linear B

Linear B was an ancient script used in ancient Greece and environs around 1500 BC. For a long time it was though to correspond to an unknown language; however, by cryptographic and mathematical techniques it was deciphered by Michael Ventris in the late 1940's as an ancient form of Greek.
